With nearly 2,000 films, TV movies, series, and music videos shot in part in the department and more than a hundred professionals working in the dynamic image industry, Val d’Oise is a true land of cinema. Three-quarters of its territory is located less than 50 kilometers from Paris, making most of its sites easily accessible from the capital or from Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport. It offers a remarkable historical heritage with typical villages, castles, abbeys, farms, small roads, unspoiled landscapes, cellars, and underground passages, as well as new towns with distinctive or innovative architecture, such as the large housing estates of Sarcelles and the Axe Majeur of Cergy-Pontoise. But the Val d’Oise also features Parisian settings of yesteryear (Magny-en-Vexin, Pontoise) and towns with a distinct provincial character (Montmorency, l’Isle-Adam, Enghien-les-Bains). With two natural parks (the Vexin Français, whose light attracted Van Gogh and the Impressionists, and Oise Pays de France), three iconic forests (Carnelle, l’Ile-Adam, Montmorency), and the banks of the Oise and Seine rivers, the Val d’Oise is a privileged setting recognized by national and international productions.
