“Dead Cells’’: animated adaptation of the game hits the small screen

Widely praised on PCs and video-game consoles for seven years, “Dead Cells’’ is now available on the small screen as an animated series for the ADN platform. This adaptation results from the collaboration of two French studios: the independent developer Motion Twin and the animation studio Bobbypills. How did the “Dead Cells: Immortalis’’ project originate? And how did the two studios work together to turn the video game into a series? Let’s take a closer look.

The animation studio Blue Spirit won six Annie Awards last February in Los Angeles for its work on Netflix’s animated series “Blue Eye Samurai’’, which benefited from the Tax Rebate for International Productions granted by the CNC. Olivier Lelardoux, CEO of Blue Spirit, comments on the studio’s development and creative process.

Season one of The Serpent Queen, the American series dramatizing the life of Catherine de Medici throughout her reign, was shot in France. On the occasion of Paris Images (a yearly professional event to showcase the French film and audiovisual industries’ dynamism) and while the second season is already underway, we have met with executive producer John Bernard (Peninsula Film) to discuss the process of recreating this prosperous period on screen. A work that combined visual effects with in-studio and on- location shooting.
