Cinema has been intertwined with Parisian public transport since its early days, as evidenced by “Juve contre Fantômas’’ by Louis Feuillade, shot back in 1913. Today, the Cinema Mission of the RATP (Paris’s public transport operator) supports productions that choose to bring their cameras into the heart of its network. Interview with Karine Lehongre-Richard, Head of Film Shoots at the RATP, to learn how the network collaborates with the film industry.

“Heads of State”: A Major American Production filmed in the South of France

Filming for “Heads of State”, Ilya Naishuller’s movie streaming on Prime Video since July 2, was relocated to southern France due to the Hollywood strike. Camille Ferret, Film Commissionner at the Alpes-Maritimes Côte d’Azur Film Commission, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the production, which drew upon both natural landscapes and studio sets to recreate locations across several countries.

Winner of the Best Screenplay award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, The Substance, an American-British production directed by filmmaker Coralie Fargeat, was entirely shot in France, both in a studio in the Paris Region and on location on the Côte d’Azur. Executive producer Nicolas Royer (A Good Story – Voulez-vous Production Services) reflects on the story and the making of the film, which involved recreating Los Angeles in the Alpes-Maritimes.

The Minions from the "Despicable Me" franchise and its spinoff movie "Minions" made a surprise appearance during the opening ceremony of the Paris Games. They were featured in a humorous scene involving a submarine submerged in the Seine, celebrating Olympic sports. This moment was a nod to their connection with Illumination Studios Paris, the French studio which works for Universal and is behind the famous franchise!
